Sunbathing, advice to take and avoid sun-burn

The Caribbean island is famous for great beaches and the perfect place to enjoy the sun. During the summer crowds flock to the beach to get a feel of the water or to just lie lazily on the sand.

However much we love the sun it poses a great health to our bodies. The sun's ultraviolet rays damage body cells. The nice brown tan you get is created by the sun and it protects you against the ultraviolet rays. Having a tan does not guarantee you will not have sun burns. Most people who are fair skinned should not expose themselves to the sun for long periods. Just remember that sunburns can leave lasting effects.

Things to remember when sun bathing:

•  You should know your skin type; this will help you know how to expose yourself to the sun.

•  If you have fair skin, do not expose yourself to the sun as this will cause damage to the skin. You can use sun protection for your skin type.

•  The ultraviolet rays can do harm even when it's cloudy. Try and take a swim in the morning and avoid exposing yourself from 10 am to 3 pm when the sun is really hot.

•  Incase you have sun burns use a prescribed sun lotion.

•  Try and wear fabrics that cover your arms and legs, this will be great during the summer.

•  Eyes can also be damaged by the sun, buy sunglasses that are 100% UV-blocking.

•  Sun screen should be applied thirty minutes before sunbathing so it can sink to the skin and hence better protection. If you are swimming then you should apply sunscreen more often.

•  If the sun is too hot when driving then close the windows or wear a hut.

•  Make sure that you protect the most vulnerable parts of the body; they include ears, eyes and arms.

•  Even if your skin has been damaged don't stop being cautious. Try and protect it from further damage.

•  Last but not least if you have damaged skin make sure you visit a dermatologist.
