Beaches - Isla de la Juventud Playa Bibijagua
Bibijagua beach is located 6 km from Nueva Gerona and is known for its captivating black sand. The color was created by erosion of the sea on the marble rocks, of which there are very many on the island. Not far from the beach visitors will find two important museums: the Presidio Modelo (Model Prision), where the leader of the Revolution, Fidel Castro, was imprisoned; and El Abra farm, declared National Monument. This beach is inhabited by a community of Cayman Islanders and some Japanese residents.
Playa El Frances
In the sea at a short distance from shore you'll be able to find Spanish galleons and beautiful coral formations while you're scuba diving.
Playa Larga
The road south from Cayo Piedra will lead you to Playa Larga, a stunning beach. Five kilometers before the beach is a turnoff to the right that leads west 28 kilometers to Punta Francés, at the tip of the Peninsula that forms the claw of Isla de la Juventud.
Playa Los Cocos
Playa Los Cocos, together with Playa Tortuga, is an extension of Playa Blanca. Los Cocos is the longest one and has many tiny coves. The beach has been given the name Los Cocos, due to the fact that coconut trees are providing the beach with some shade.
Playa Paraiso
This beach is located five kilometers east of Nueva Gerona and three kilometers north from the main road. It has a beautiful white sand beach.
Playa Tortuga
Playa Tortugas is an extension, like Playa Los Cocos, of Playa Blanca. Playa Tortuga has as its main attraction the fact of being a place chosen by hundreds of sea turtles to lay their eggs within its peaceful and warm sands. This all happens in the months May till October and the eggs are collected to be incubated at the turtle farm.
Playa Blanca beach
Playa Blanca is the largest beach on the island. It's seven kilometers long and is a magnificent site with palm trees lining the shores and crystal clear water. A rocky point divides it from the Playa Lindamar and to the east, an unbroken extension of Playa Blanca are Playa Los Cocos and Playa Tortuga.
Playa Lindamar beach
Lindamar is a small and private beach, which extends east about two kilometers and is next to the Playa Blanca. It is located in a shell shaped area and is a perfect destination for beach lovers who are looking for a friendly and private atmosphere.
