Beaches - HolguínPlaya Esmeralda
This beach is known as Emerald Beach because of the color of its water, which is deep green. It has a length of around 900 meters. It is located 5 kilometers from Guardalavaca, 72 kilometers from an international airport and 56 kilometers from Holguín, capital of province Holguín. The sea down here is warm and has many coral reefs. The beach itself is flanked by cliffs, steep slopes and a lot of vegetation. Playa Esmeralda is the place to be when you're into water sports, such as diving or snorkeling, windsurfing, catamaran sailing or sailboarding. In a bay close to the beach is Bahía de Naranjo Natural Reserve. In the same bay, there is an aquarium with the main attraction being swimming with dolphins.
Playa Guardalavaca
Guardalavaca beach has a length of about 3 kilometers. The sea is warm and beautifully turquoise blue and is protected by coral reefs, 300 meters into the sea, creating the perfect climate for all kinds of sea life, such as swordfish and peacock fish. Because of the very clear water, this place is ideal for diving up to depths of 20 meters. Here you can also go cave diving. Gibara is home to a series of underwater caves unique in the island. Guardalavaca means "Hide the Cow". A legendary story tells us that in the 16th and 17th century Spanish settlers used this place as a hide out for their cattle, to avoid being robbed by pirates. Another story is that the early settlers used to trade leather goods and meat on the beach in exchange for European goods.
Playa Pesquero Nearby Naranjo Bay, which is a nature reserve you can find Pesquero beach. Bahia de Naranjo is a National Park with beautiful plants and trees. It is located 14 kilometers from Guardalavaca Beach and 60 minutes from the airport. Pesquero beach, which is over 900 meters long, is beautiful and private. You'll not find many Cuban people here. The beach is protected by amazing coral reefs, cliffs and plenty vegetation and especially for people who would like some shade, this beach is perfect as numerous trees line the beach. Playa Pesquero has many tourist attractions. You can go swimming with the dolphins at Bahia Naranjo, sunning, swimming, scuba diving, snorkling, other water sports, beach volleyball, tennis, excursions on yachts, horseback riding, cycling and hiking. In Playa Pesquere you can choose from many beautiful resorts. Top on their priority list is to provide their guests with privacy and relaxation. That's why this is a perfect destination for a honeymoon. But of course for groups there are also enough facilities.
Playa Yuraguanal Playa Yuraguanal is a private man-made beach about 800 meters long located at the west of Guardalavaca. The only resort on the beach is Turquesa. It opened in 2003 and has more than 500 rooms.
